We Love Garlic!

We are getting some amazing garlic this year. The crop is down because of the rain but the quality of what we are getting in is amazing! MoVida Aqui's Sous Chef, Andreas Becerra has been working on some great garlic rich dishes such as these sweet tiny tomatoes from Angelica Farm in Glenlyon near Daylesford. They are topped with shredded morsels of delicious salt cod. Andreas will be appearing at the inaugural Meeniyan Garlic Festival on Saturday 18th February…

My Island Home Away From Home

It is one of the most stunning places on the planet yet hardly anyone goes there. It is closer to Melbourne than Mt Gambier or Mallacoota and produces some of the cleanest greenest food in the world. It is Flinders Island in Bass Strait and chef Scott Stevenson from MoVida Original was there last weekend cooking for the Furneaux Island Festival. "This is such a beautiful, unspoiled place," said Scott, still beaming from meals of rock lobster and Cape Barren…

MoVida y Moritz Laneway Fiesta

15.02.17 MoVida and Barcelona's own beer brand Moritz are taking over Melbourne's iconic Hosier Lane for a Catalan style street party to celebrate the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival's 25th year. Held early April during Melbourne's famous second summer, this afternoon outdoor party brings together some of the MoVida team's favourite music, food and drinks to the grungy graffiti cobble-lined laneway. All afternoon we will be serving Pinchos, Croquetas, Spanish Conservas, freshly shucked Oysters, and Bocadillos served from brightly themed stands. Bars…

Spring Bay Mussels

17.11.16 They are some of the biggest and best mussels we have seen. They come from the clean deep waters off Triabunna on Tasmania’s East Coast. They are grown by a bloke passionate about his mussels – Phil Lamb. He grows them on rope lines that are suspended in the water. The water is not static. It flows past at a rate of around 1-2 knots constantly bringing fresh water past the mussels. There they feed on little pieces of…

Good Food Month and Taste of Melbourne

09.11.16 We are thrilled to report we put on two stunning and successful events in this year’s Good Food Month. Last night (Tuesday 8 Nov) saw Movida Aqui taken over by Ben Williamson from Gerard’s Bistro in Brisbane. It is our go to restaurant in Brissie. He wowed 130 Melbourne diners with dishes such as deep fried cauliflower with spiced hummus sauce and succulent wagyu brisket with smoky eggplant and pickled vegetables rolled in an earthy flatbread. It was a…

Our Daily Bread

25.08.16 Bread is an essential part of the Spanish table. At every meal there is a loaf of bread. The family matriarch cuts the loaf and shares it around. It is the first mouthful of the meal and often washed down with wine. Many jokingly compare it with Sunday Mass. It is also the last mouthful of the main course with small chunks of bread being pushed around the plate to soak up the sauce and juices from the meal.…
