Don’t Get MIFFED!

MIFFED. It’s the pain of forgetting to get tickets to the Melbourne International Film Festival or MIFF. It starts August 3 and is on until August 20.

In a bittersweet turn of events the closing night at the Forum you can catch the premiere of Paul William’s’ profound film Elcho Dreaming on the life of the great indigenous musician who sadly recently left us, Dr. G. Yununpingu.

Perth-based UK-born writer Ben Elton’s new Australian comedy Three Summers starring Magda Szubanski and Michael Caton premieres at the Comedy Theatre.

This year there is a retrospective of sci-fi including Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the much underrated Australian – US co production Dark City directed by Aussie director Alex Proyas.

There are kids’ screenings and a very special animation of the works of Vincent Van Gogh. Book your tickets and consider dropping in for some quick tapas before your show (venues include ACMI, The Forum, Kino, Comedy Theatre and Hoyts at Melbourne Central).

Or come afterwards for a relaxing meal and, over wine, dissect the film like a latter day David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz.
