New Year’s Eve at MoVida Aqui – La Nochevieja

It’s been a MoVida custom for years now to bring in the New Year at MoVida Aqui. It is a party night. The staff are in high spirits and the kitchen crew are ready to cook the full a la carte menu. You might want to start with a class of cold vava from the heartland of Spanish sparkling wine in Penedes near Barcelona or even a fat glass of ice and vermut (Spanish vermouth) with a wedge of summer orange. Bring on the oysters – if the weather has been kind they will be big Sydney Rock oysters from the South Coast of NSW. At this time of the year they can be amazingly well flavoured and superb with a glass of textural white wine from Galicia. Move on to some jamon, some croquettas, and then seasonal dishes made from summer vegetables, the freshest seafood, lamb, beef, and pork from our suppliers. Time for a glass of red from La Rioja. Finish with some seasonal fruit, some perfectly affinaged cheese from Spain and then a glass of Spanish sloe gin – patxarin – Frank’s favourite way of finishing a meal. Just in time for the fireworks over Melbourne when the steel and glass towers reflect every explosive shower of the free fireworks in a three dimensional show. Here you’re close enough for the full pyrotechnic display but far enough away from the madding crowds to enjoy the night and get away when you want to.
