Hermanos Pecina Reserva Rioja

  • Producer: Hermanos Peciña

Bodegas Hermanos Peciña is a family-run winery established in 1992 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra in Rioja Alta by Pedro Peciña Crespo and his children, rooted in a deep respect for traditional Rioja winemaking. Drawing on Pedro’s long experience as a vineyard manager at one of Rioja’s most esteemed estates, the winery farms around 50 hectares of estate vineyards on calcareous-clay soils, with many vines around 40-60 years old.

The team embraces classic methods — hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, and labour-intensive gravity-fed “trasiego” racking — aging wines in used American oak barrels and extended bottle maturation to preserve purity of fruit and texture, producing elegant, expressive wines that reflect Rioja’s heritage.

The Reserva Rioja from Hermanos Peciña is a textbook example of long-aged, traditional Rioja, made entirely from Tempranillo sourced from estate vineyards in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The wine is fermented using indigenous yeasts before 3 years maturation in older American oak barrels, allowing slow oxygenation without masking the fruit.

On release it shows lifted red cherry and plum, moving into savoury notes of dried herbs, tobacco, leather and subtle vanilla. The palate is poised and linear, with fresh acidity, finely resolved tannins and a long, earthy finish—an authentic, age-worthy Reserva that rewards both cellaring and classic food pairing.

Go Wine Yourself.

Some say the future of Spanish wine lies in its past. If that’s true, Envínate’s already there — four mates making wild, beautiful wines with one foot in the old world and the other kicking down the door.
