Nanclares y Prieto 'A Grana' Albarino

  • Producer: Nanclares y Prieto

A Grana is a single vineyard from the exposed Sanxenxo area of the Val do Salnes. The plot of 30 year old vines sits on an vein of Granodiorite rock that imparts an intense and quite unique mineral edge to the wine. It's fermented and aged in an single 800l chestnut wood barrel and kept on lees for 11 months without racking.

A Grana is an incredibly intense Albarino, savoury and complex with flavours of red apple skin and a slight phenolic grip before a searing acid line carries the wine straight back through the palate. It's something of a tightrope act to balance this much acid but A Grana manages it with grace - it's a fascinating thing to behold now but promises a long, long life ahead.
